Programme Officer

The Mayor’s Office for Policing And Crime (MOPAC) is the organisation through which the Mayor of London exercises his role as the Police and Crime Commissioner for London.  It is headed by the Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime.  The Office is led at official level by a Chief Operating Officer, Helen Bailey, who oversees the delivery of the Mayor’s Police and Crime Plan

The programme Officer is an essential post within the Integrated Offender Management Directorate, offering project management and policy development support; alongside working closely with London boroughs to establish joint problem solving and commissioning priorities. As one of four Programme Officers you will assist the delivery of Police and Crime Plan commitments on crime reduction, reducing offending, and prevention against an aim of reducing crime by 20%.

Flexibility is essential as the post may be asked to support a variety of programmes of work against our established priorities, for example violence reduction, violence against women and girls (VAWG), and the reduction of reoffending depending on the demands of the organisation, though the primary focus for this will be VAWG. The post holder will also be required to contribute to MOPAC’s borough engagement function, supporting and working with London Boroughs to develop complimentary approaches to crime reduction. This will require experience in working in partnership with statutory crime and disorder agencies; an understanding of local community safety partnership and services is seen as desirable.

Experience of critical community issues and an understanding of the importance of community support to policy development and commissioning is important, as the post will need to assist in establishing and maintaining Safer Neighbourhood Boards and the Independent Custody Visitors scheme.

This role requires previous experience of programme management as well as policy development and a track record of effective policy implementation.  You will have a working knowledge of policing and crime issues together with demonstrable ability to build relationships influence and negotiate successfully with stakeholders and partners.
The role has a need to work outside office hours on an occasional basis and at different locations given the responsibility for partner working. This is a rare and genuine opportunity to make a real difference and join a high performing and ambitious organisation working at the forefront of policing and crime in London.

MOPAC welcomes applications from a wide range of diverse backgrounds. Reasonable adjustment will be made to working arrangements to accommodate a person with a disability who otherwise would be prevented from undertaking the work. Political Restriction; Under the Local Government and Housing Act 1989 (as amended by the Police Reform and Social Responsibility Act 2011) all members of staff of the MOPAC will be politically restricted without the right to apply for an exemption).
