Head of External Relations and Knowledge Management

JOB DESCRIPTION

We are looking to appoint a Head of External Relations and Knowledge Management to provide the strategic link with partner organisations in relation to communications, technological interaction and the positioning of the organisation. The role holder will be responsible for the translation of core our strategies into messages and communications material; delivering our communication strategy and championing knowledge maintenance across the organisation.

Specific Responsibilities

The Head of External Relations and Knowledge Management will be responsible for the strategic interface with Government relations, the GLA, Local Authorities and with the Communications Directorate of the Metropolitan Police Service, ensuring that our messages are shaped, communicated and appropriately situated in a way that are transparent, maximises impact and enhances our reputation

The role holder will provide strategic advice to our Advisors and senior staff on all aspects of communications and external relationship matters and decision making, ensuring that they have access to the information required to perform their roles effectively. The role holder will be expected to work in partnership with GLA media team and advisors – leading on defining messaging across the organisation within the policing and criminal justice context, in conjunction with our policy leads and Director of Strategy.  The Head of External Relations and Knowledge Management will liaise at senior levels with colleagues in the GLA, Metropolitan Police Service and Local Authorities, developing relationships to ensure consistency and co-ordinated communications to expert policing audiences.

The role holder will oversee the delivery of MOPAC’s ‘Big Data’ tools, through which performance data will be made available to partners, stakeholders and members of the public via a variety of media channels.

It is expected the role holder will have professional communications experience at senior/executive level, with the ability to craft and deliver a communications strategy and messages. Knowledge and understanding of either the policing or local government environment and experience of the public service landscape are also essential.
