Area Programme and Engagement Assistant

The Mayor’s Office for Policing And Crime (MOPAC) is the organisation through which the Mayor of London exercises his role as the Police and Crime Commissioner for London.  It is headed by the Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime.

We are seeking to recruit an Area Programme and Engagement Assistant for maternity cover for 12 months to assist in the delivery of Police and Crime Plan. The commitments are crime reduction and reducing offending, with a particular focus on three criminal justice targets:
•to seek swifter justice for victims by reducing delays in the criminal justice system by 20%
•to achieve surer justice by increasing compliance with community sentences by 20%
•to reduce reoffending by young people leaving custody in London by 20%.

You will work in the IOM, Programmes and Neighbourhoods Unit and be part of the Criminal Justice Team. Flexibility is essential as you may be asked to support a variety of programmes of work against our established priorities. These are gangs and youth violence, violence against women and girls, substance misuse, the reduction of reoffending and wider criminal justice reform depending on the demands of the organisation.

Your work will include assisting in the development of policies, supporting the delivery of programmes, recruiting and supporting volunteers (as part of managing the Independent Custody Visitors Panel), helping make the best use of funds and identifying areas for service improvement.

You will need a proven ability to deliver projects and an interest in policy development and working with communities. Knowledge of policing and crime and offender management is essential and Transforming Rehabilitation would be desirable. Excellent communication is required both written and verbal, organisation and collaboration skills, and the ability to build professional relationships with diverse stakeholders, partners and communities.

MOPAC welcomes applications from all sections on the community and a wide range of diverse backgrounds. Reasonable adjustment will be made to working arrangements to accommodate a person with a disability who otherwise would be prevented from undertaking the work.
